Objectivos de aprendizagem (conhecimentos, aptidões e competências a desenvolver pelos estudantes)
Os objectivos desta Unidade Curricular são os seguintes:
• Consolidar a escolha do tema de Dissertação
• Elaborar e estruturar o plano de Dissertação
• Elaborar um estado da arte enquadrando cientificamente o tema abordado.
• Desenvolver a capacidade de investigação dos candidatos relativamente às áreas científicas e tecnológicas enquadradas no tema da Dissertação
• Realizar a implementação tecnológica ou trabalho de campo correspondentes à prova de conceito do propósito defendido
• Realizar a redacção do documento de Dissertação sob a orientação do respectivo orientador
No final do percurso os candidatos deverão efectuar a defesa da Tese de Mestrado e obter o Grau de Mestre em Engenharia Informática e Sistemas de Informação.

Learning outcomes of the curricular unit
The objectives of the curricular unit are:
• To consolidate the choice of the dissertation theme
• To develop and structure the dissertation plan
• To develop a state of the art covering the scientific perspectives of the theme
• To develop the candidate skills needed to conduct research in the scientific and technological fields of  the dissertation theme
• To conduct a technological implementation or fieldwork corresponding to the proof of concept of the advocated purpose
• Writing the Dissertation document under the guidance of their supervisor
At the end of this course students perform the defense of their dissertation and obtain the Master’s Degree in Computing Engineering and Information Systems.

Metodologias de ensino (avaliação incluída)
A UC de Seminário de Dissertação representa no currículo do presente plano de estudos a actividade de enquadramento científico necessária à realização da Dissertação. Nesse sentido os candidatos são acompanhados em regime de tutoria pelo seu orientador durante todo o processo: a escolha do tema, o seu aprofundamento e investigação relacionada, o eventual trabalho de implementação tecnológico, e finalmente a redacção da dissertação de Mestrado. Neste processo pretende-se desenvolver a capacidade reflexiva do aluno sobre: a gestão do projecto; a sua contribuição para o conhecimento do tópico alvo da dissertação e obter as competências de um mestre no mercado de trabalho.
A avaliação é constituída pela defesa pública da Dissertação perante um Júri nomeado pelo Conselho Científico do Curso e aprovado pelo Concelho Científico da Universidade.

Planned learning outcomes, teaching methods and assessment methods and criteria
The Dissertation Seminar represents the scientific activity necessary to obtain the master’s degree. Candidates are therefore coached by their supervisor, following a tutorial methodology, throughout whole the process, which consists of selecting the theme, its development and performing the associated research, the possible technological implementation and finally writing the dissertation manuscript. This process aims at developing the student’s reflective capacity on the following aspects: project management; contribution to the dissemination of the research theme and the skills needed to become an effective M.Sc. in the professional marketplace.
The assessment consists of the public defense of the dissertation, with a jury appointed by the Scientific Council of the Course and approved by Scientific Council of the School of Communication, Arts and Information Technology.

A metodologia de ensino assenta em tutoria e diálogo, fornecendo ao aluno os recursos indispensáveis para que este seja capaz de decidir sobre um tema pertinente numa dada área de inovação; desenvolver esse tema em profundidade para que a sua realização seja um real contributo para o conhecimento da área, e adquirir a capacidade de comunicar os respectivos resultados de forma clara e objectiva, por escrito e oralmente. Assim a metodologia utilizada permite alcançar os objectivos definidos para esta unidade curricular.

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit’s objectives
The teaching methodology, based on dialogue and tutoring, provides students with the resources required for: choosing a theme relevant in a given area of innovation; developing this theme in depth so that their work is a real advance on the area chosen, and acquiring the ability to communicate the results of their work clearly and objectively in written and oral form. Therefore, the methodology used is coherent with the curricular unit’s objectives.

The choice of literature depends on the chosen theme and is one of the tasks to be completed by the candidate in order to sustain the subject of the dissertation.
