Objectivos de aprendizagem (conhecimentos, aptidões e competências a desenvolver pelos estudantes)
Os objectivos desta Unidade Curricular são os seguintes:
•    Fornecer um ciclo de conferências com um leque alargado de intervenções nas áreas científicas do ciclo de estudos.
•    Promover contactos entre os candidatos e organizações e personalidades com actividade relevante em áreas avançadas da Engenharia Informática e Sistemas de Informação.
•    Desenvolver a capacidade dos candidatos em adquirir e aprofundar conhecimento a partir de exposições realizadas em ambiente de conferência.
•    Fornecer aos alunos um estado da arte em Eng.ª Informática e Sistemas de Informação.
No final do percurso os candidatos deverão ter uma visão global actualizada dos principais temas de inovação da área de formação, que lhes permita:
•    Seleccionar e consolidar o tema de Dissertação.
•    Efectuar contactos com vista à escolha do Professor Orientador.
•    Iniciar o processo da realização da Dissertação de Mestrado, com a elaboração do respectivo plano e estado da arte.

Intended learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and competences to be developed by the students)
The objectives of this Curricular Unit are:
•    To deliver a weekly conference with a wide range of themes  in the scientific areas of the study cycle.
•    To promote the establishment of contacts between the students and  personalities from in advanced areas of Computer Engineering and Information Systems.
•    To develop candidate skills to synthesize, acquire and develop knowledge from lectures given in conference environment.
•    To offer students a state of the art in Computer Engineering and Enterprise Information Systems.
At the end of the course candidates must have achieved an updated overview of important innovative themes in the main fields of the graduation, which allows them to:
•    Select and consolidate the subject of their dissertation.
•    Establish contacts to choose their Supervisor.
•    Initiate their Master dissertation project, by developing the associated work plan and associated state of the art.

Demonstração da coerência dos conteúdos programáticos com os objectivos de aprendizagem da unidade curricular
O objectivo de estabelecer um ciclo de conferências é atingido com a realização semanal de uma palestra por um convidado externo. O objectivo de promover contactos entre os candidatos e os oradores é atingido pela realização de um debate no final de cada sessão, em que o orador participa. O desenvolvimento da capacidade de adquirir e aprofundar conhecimentos é atingido pelo processo de exposição e discussão levado a cabo em cada sessão. Finalmente o objectivo de fornecer um estado da arte actualizado é atingido pela renovação anual do dos temas e oradores do seminário, adaptando-se de forma dinâmica às evoluções tecnológicas e empresariais. Desta forma o conteúdo da UC é coerente com os objectivos enunciados.

Evidence of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit’s intended learning outcomes
The objective of establishing a series of conferences is achieved with the realization of a weekly lecture by an invited speaker. The goal of promoting contacts between candidates and speakers is achieved by holding a debate at the end of each session, where the speaker participates. The development of the ability to acquire and develop knowledge is achieved by the process of exposure and discussion carried out in each session. Finally the aim of providing a up to date state of the art is achieved by the annual renewal of the seminar topics and speakers, thus accommodating the technological and business evolution. Therefore, the content of UC is consistent with its stated objectives.

Metodologias de ensino (avaliação incluída)
A presente UC promove um leque alargado de intervenções em áreas temáticas do ciclo de estudos, no decorrer das quais são utilizados métodos de ensino expositivos e exploratórios. No final de cada conferência o docente responsável pela sessão anima um debate, agindo como facilitador entre os alunos, o orador e o tema abordado, levando-os a assumir uma atitude activa no estudo de caso apresentado.
A avaliação é centrada na participação nas sessões e no alcance dos objectivos enunciados para a cadeira: escolha do tema de dissertação, do orientador e realização do esboço do estado da arte e plano de trabalhos. Alternadamente os candidatos poderão ser avaliados pela apresentação de um ou dois “Position Papers”, aprofundando temas abordados nas conferências ou o tema escolhido para a dissertação.

Teaching methodologies (including assessment)
This unit promotes a wide range of interventions in the areas of the study cycle, on which expository and exploratory methods are used. After each conference the teacher responsible for the session promotes a debate, acting as a facilitator between the students, the speaker and the subject addressed, leading them to take an active approach in the thematic of the case study presented.
The evaluation is focused on the student’s participation in the sessions and in the achievement of the objectives set out for the course: choice of the dissertation topic and advisor, and an performing an outline of its state of the art and work plan. Alternatively, candidates may be assessed by submitting one or two “Position Papers” exploring topics covered by the conference cycle, or on their dissertation theme.

Demonstração da coerência das metodologias de ensino com os objectivos de aprendizagem da unidade curricular
O cumprimento do objectivo “seleccionar e consolidar o tema de Dissertação” depende, por um lado, da capacidade de pesquisa dos alunos e, por outro lado, dos conteúdos fornecidos nas conferências. O contacto “cara a cara” com especialistas e académicos que trabalham em áreas avançadas do conhecimento acelera o processo de pesquisa e selecção do tema, após a qual os alunos conseguem mais eficazmente encontrar um orientador. Os casos de estudo apresentados nas conferências constituem igualmente pontos de partida para papers e/ou revisão da literatura para o tema da dissertação. Desta forma, as metodologias utilizadas alinham-se de forma coerente com os objectivos enunciados para esta unidade curricular.

Evidence of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit’s intended learning outcomes
Achieving the goal “to select and consolidate the dissertation’s theme” depends, on the one hand, of the of students research capability and, on the other hand, of the content of the conferences. The “face to face” contact with experts and academics working in advanced areas of knowledge accelerates the search and selection of a theme, after which the students can more effectively find an advisor. The case studies discussed at the conferences can also function as starting points for papers and / or literature reviews on the dissertation topic. Therefore, the methodologies used are consistently aligned with the objectives set for this curricular unit.
