Intended learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and competences to be developed by the students):

This curricular unit has as main goal support the students with the related competences about writing a good job application to high-tech companies in the field of data science.
LG1. The student must acquire competences about the best strategies to apply to a job description in data science, knowledge about the type of interviews, HR and Technical.
LG2. The student must acquire the competences to answer many typical technical questions, e.g. divided in two technical interviews, one about code (data structures and reasoning competences) and another about Machine Learning with typical problems and assessment on reasoning competences.

Conteúdos programáticos:
CP1.
CP2. Questões de código: e.g.:
– Given a list of numbers and K, return the number of pairs where the sum of the pair is less than K. – Given login and logout times of users (in ints, e.g. [2, 10], [5, 8]) find the peak load interval.
– etc.
CP3. Questões de Machine Learning: e.g. :
How to check overfitting? How to deal with it?
Ensemble algorithm? (Random forest; feature and data replacement; reduce variance…)
How to split tree?
CP4. Exemplos práticos.

Syllabus:
PC1. Phases of application to a job in data science: job search platforms, CV preparation, entreview types (Human Resources interview, Technical interviews).
PC2. Coding Questions: e.g. :
– Given a list of numbers and K, return the number of pairs where the sum of the pair is less than K. – Given login and logout times of users (in ints, e.g. [2, 10], [5, 8]) find the peak load interval.
– etc.
PC3. Machine Learning Questions: e.g. :
How to check overfitting? How to deal with it?
Ensemble algorithm? (Random forest; feature and data replacement; reduce variance…)
How to split tree?
PC4. Practical use-cases.

Teaching methodologies (including students’ assessment):
Teaching methodologies (TM) including assessment:
TM1: Expositional: Theoretical exposition according to the syllabus.
TM2: Experimental: data analysis in informatics laboratory with appropriate software according to the syllabus. TM3: Active: teamwork in a working project and its oral presentation (40%).
TM4: Self-study: individual work on a weekly basis working problems (60%).
Important assessment notes:
– Teamwork (working project) minimum grade 8 and individual weekly working problems minimum grade 8.
– The teamwork is with teams of 2 or 3 students.
